Brisbane: Getting Back to Business

From December 2010 to February 2011, Queensland and Brisbane have made headlines around the world.

The Australian summer of 2010/2011 will be remembered as a time when the Sunshine state faced Mother Nature’s awesome power - experiencing wide spread flooding and a turbulent Cyclone season. In fact, over half of Queensland’s 1,852, 652 square kms was affected by flooding - an area larger than France and Germany combined and bigger than the state of Texas, USA.

Despite widespread damage and heartbreak caused by the storms, the past couple of months have demonstrated the strength of the human spirit and the impact that can be made when individuals work together.

When Brisbane began to flood, masses of people formed human chains to sandbag local businesses and homes. A few days later, they returned to help with the cleanup.

Queenslanders were unified and making an international statement: collectively, we can’t be beaten. Altogether, better.

Slowly but surely, life in Queensland is returning to normal and Brisbane is getting back to business.
